Managing Myself

This week Room 19 have been thinking about how we manage ourselves. These are some of the ideas we came up with.

  • Don't get distracted when you are doing your work
  • Pick up and look after your belongings
  • Get yourself ready in the morning
  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself

Art Splash Songs

Night Fever

Listen to the ground, there is movement all around,
There is something goin’ down, and I can feel it
On the waves of the air there is dancin’ out there
If it’s somethin’ we can share, we can steal it.

And that sweet city feeling, it moves through the light
controlling my mind and my soul
When it calls out for me, yeah, and the feelin' is bright,
then I get night fever, night fever.
We know how to do it.
Gimme that night fever, night fever.
We know how to show it.
Here I am, prayin’ for this moment to last,
livin' on the music so fine,
borne on the wind, makin' it mine.
Night fever, night fever. We know how to do it.
Gimme that night fever, night fever. We know how to show it.

Listen to the sound, there is rhythm all around,
Gimme just enough to dance till the morning.
I got fire in my mind.  I got fire in my walking

And I’m groovin’ in the dark;  I give you warning.

Climb Ev’ry Mountain

Climb ev'ry mountain, search high and low,
Follow ev'ry byway, ev'ry path you know.
Climb ev'ry mountain, ford ev'ry stream,
Follow ev'ry rainbow, till you find your dream!
A dream that will need all the love you can give,
Ev'ry day of your life, for as long as you live.
Climb ev'ry mountain, ford ev’ry stream,
Follow ev’ry rainbow till you find your dream!
A  dream that will need all the love you can give,
Ev'ry day of your life, for as long as you live.
Climb ev'ry mountain, ford ev'ry stream,
Follow ev’ry rainbow till you find your dream!

Smile

Smile, tho' your heart is aching,
Smile, even tho' it's breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky,
You'll get by, if you
Smile through your fear and sorrow,
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining thru, for you
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide ev' ry trace of sadness.
Altho' a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile what's the use of crying,
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you'll just smile.
 (Soloists)
Smile, tho' your heart is aching,
Smile, even tho' it's breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky,
You'll get by, if you
Smile through your fear and sorrow,
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining thru, for you
 (All sing)
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide ev' ry trace of sadness.
Altho' a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile what's the use of crying,
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you'll just smile.

If you want you can You Tube these songs to hear the music. Happy Singing.

  • Be positive
  • Spelled and punctuated correctly
  • Appropriate

Happy Easter

Easter Buddy Time

On Wednesday Super Room 19 and Funny Room 3 had easter buddy time. It was super fun. We made bunny ears, chicks and easter cookies. The two classes thought the afternoon was very extreme! We thought the cookies were YUMMY:-).

I thought it was the best buddy time we have had so far :) .

Reconstruction for the office

Silverstream school is very excited about the new construction for the office. The office people, teachers and the children will be very pleased when the new office is rebuilt. Friday saw the arrival of some temporary buildings.
It was exciting and we were surprised at how easily the rooms were pick up off the trucks and craned into place.
The school is going to look very different when it is done.

Chimpanzees

Chimpanzees are mainly found in rain forests or wet savannahs. They spend equal time on land and in trees. They do most of their feeding and sleeping in trees to hide from enemies.

Chimps use thick branches and sticks as clubs to throw or hit their enemies. Their main predators are leopards and humans. Chimps are omnivorous foragers (an animal that feeds on both animal and vegetable substances).

They can grow to around 137cm tall standing bipedal. Even though chimpanzees have four legs, they can walk on two. Their weight is usually 50 kilograms. Chimpanzees don't have tails. Chimps can get infected with the same diseases as humans. They are seven times stronger than men. Girl chimps learn a lot faster than boy chimps. When they are bored they organise various games to entertain themselves.

I think chimpanzees are very clever how they use branches to protect themselves. Chimps have interesting lives. They can live up to about 50 years.

Wellington Zoo

On the bus it was horrendous, everyone was so excited to go to the Zoo. Year 5 and six were off to the zoo for our Term 1 topic Wild and Wonderful Animals. We went there to look at the habitats and enclosures. We saw Lions, Kangaroos, Tigers and much, much more. We raced round the Zoo to have a look at all the animals in the time that we had. From all that running our feet got sore and smelly.

During our class session we learned about the animals adaptation to their environment. We got to say "Hello" to a lizard called Mum and Tiggy the hedgehog.

Cute Kittens Come to Visit

Thursday afternoon Georgia's mum brought in 2 week old kittens. We were lucky enough to be able to hold them and give them cuddles.
We were told that they were found after their mother had left them. The kittens needed feeding every 4 hours. When they came we got to see them being fed. We noticed that when they swallowed their ears twitched. They were small, chubby and quite fluffy.

Cyber Bullying

This  afternoon the Ako Nui Team watched a play about keeping safe on the internet. These are some of the things we learned…

  • tell someone you trust if you are being bullied
  • don't reply to the message so they don't get the satisfaction of being a bully
  • cyber bullies are just as bad as playground bullies
  • bullying of any kind is unacceptable
  • cyber bullying can be quite scary
  • the things they say aren't always true
  • keep your phone number to yourself and only share it with people close to you
  • you can block unwanted calls or texts
  • have a strong passcode for your devices
  • think about how your comments will affect others

As you can see we got a lot of information from this performance.

Super 19 enjoys working through some free writing. The students have a choice of what they write about and they are able to buddy up if they want. We have some interesting ideas from comics to adventure stories.

A little help

Thanks for the coming in on Wednesday to see the goals your children have set for themselves for the year. Some of you asked for some ideas in regards to help with basic facts. Below I have list a couple of great sites. Your child should know which stage they are working towards but if you are unsure it will be on the homework sheet.
